This post is my entry into the Jeff Goins YouAreAWriter.com contest. My video entry is below.
On a whim I thought I would enter. Why not? I am a writer after all. I thought it would be good fun. I’ve never declared that I was a writer before. It’s just what I am. Since the day I first put squiggly lines to the page before I even knew how to spell I was a writer.
I haven’t always been confident in my gift, however. There have been days when I was sure that I was one of the worse writers ever. And that fear almost paralyzed me and kept me from living out my dream. But then I learned that all writers feel that way sometimes. It doesn’t make me any less of a writer. I just needed to embrace my gift. There may have even been times when I may have even taken my gift with words for granted. All I know is that I have always been grateful for the gift God has given to me.
When I had no where to turn I could always escape into a world that I created and express myself through my stories, poetry and songs. Reading and writing has always been a great comfort to me. Now I’m blessed to use my words to be a comfort to others.
Yes! I AM A WRITER! I say it loud and proud. I am a writer. No matter what anyone else thinks or says this is what I am. And I’ve got to be me. One day I decided to take fear by the reins and kick it to the curb! That’s right. I had to kiss fear goodbye. I AM A WRITER. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I decided to do a short, fun, animated video as part of my entry. (What? You thought the above text was it? Tsk Tsk. I’m a writer. I had to write something. Plus, everyone can’t view video.) All of the entrants were told to create something fun. So I thought long and hard on what to do. My text above wasn’t enough. It’s good. But I needed to add a little something extra to make it all pop. Then an awesome idea hit me and here you have it. That “something extra.”
I still love cartoons even though I am now a grown woman. (I’m a kid at heart) I felt like this fits me perfectly. (A quick note: While I am making my declaration in cartoon format these characters don’t look ANYTHING like me. For one, I’m not a child. And second, I’m African-American. There are no black characters to choose from.)
I used a free service to create it so the speech is computer generated and unnatural. The story line may even be silly. I was allowed only ten scenes for a movie maximum of only two minutes. So I did the best I could with what I had and the limit that I was under. Take it for what it is. A quick, fun, original contest entry. I hope that you’ll like it, as well as the post above. I had a great deal of fun making it. Enjoy!
If you enjoyed this post and the video, please leave a comment and let me know what you thought of it. I enjoy reading your comments and I reply to them all.
