Are You Willing To Let Go?

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. – E.M. Forster, British Writer (1879- 1970)

How many of us have our life planned out to the “T?” From the time we are young until we grow up, a lot of us have it deeply ingrained in us exactly what we are going to do when we grow up, what we are going to have, and how we are going to get it. Even if we don’t know this as children, at some point we have it figured out.

I remember reading a story once of a young woman that had everything planned out for her future wedding. From the venue, to the cake, to the music, to the bridesmaids dresses. She had even purchased her dress. All she needed was a groom! She was ready for her dream wedding and she was going to have it no matter what! No one else’s opinion mattered. She wanted what she wanted, and that’s the problem.

What if what you want for yourself is not what God wants for you? Do you run away from God like Jonah? Or do you say, “whatever your will is Lord I will follow you?” It also may not even be a dream that you need to let go of, but an attitude as well.

Are you trusting God’s will for your life or your own? More than likely you are trusting your own. Be honest, how many of us always include God in our decision making process? For many the answer is ‘never.’ For others it’s ‘sometimes.’ But the answer should be ‘always.’ What in your life do you need to let go of so that God can fulfill His true purpose in your life? A tightly held dream? Pride? Self-sufficiency , Un-forgiveness?

Think about it.
