What Will Your Story Be?

What have you done with your life? If you were to die tomorrow, would you have died with your dreams still in you? Or would you have died having given them birth?

All of my life I have wanted to write. And for the last several years I have been crippled by my fear of rejection. A couple years ago I made up mind to work on my book. The book that has been in my heart for years. I’ve given myself 5 years to write it. I’ve got three years left. It’s a slow process. But you know what? It’s worth the hard work and effort, as slow going as it is. I’ve always wanted to write a book, and I will do that. That’s my dream. I want to be a published writer. I want to be successful. I want to make a living as an author, which I believe to be my calling in this life. I’m working on it, and I know that I will achieve this goal.

People die everyday full of hopes and dreams for a better life, a better future, yet they never achieved anything. Why? Because they let life, fear, procrastination, low self-esteem, lack of money, etc get in the way of what was in their hearts. They didn’t set goals, and work towards them to achieve what was in their hearts. So their dreams remained just that…dreams.

What is in your heart? What do you want to do with your life? What reasonable steps are you willing to take to make your dreams reality? What goals are you willing to set to get from here to there? Do you want to write? What are you going to do everyday to get that book done, write that article, to see your work in print? Do you want to dance? Sing? Paint? Fly? Own a business? Act? Overcome an addiction, find long lost family, overcome unforgiveness, work on healing from past hurts? What do you want to do? How will you do it? Will you save a little money from each paycheck for lessons, or as start-up for your business? Will you write a little everyday? Go to counseling? What do you need to do in order to reach your goals in this life, and make your dreams a reality?

You know, life is so short. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. The Lord may very well bring us home sooner than we think. Will you be ready? Will you have died with your dreams still in you, full of regrets and a whole bunch of shoulda, coulda, woulda’s? Or will you have stopped making excuses, stepped out in faith, and trusted the Lord and just went for what’s in your heart? Sometimes we wait for the Lord to shout “MOVE!”, when He’s waiting for you to take the first step and trust Him, and step out in faith. If you are in His will, He will surely open doors for you. God never leaves you hangin’. God has given us the gift of free will. What will you do with it?

You say, what if I step out, and fail. I tell you that the one that truly fails is the one that never tried. Maybe you stepped out and it wasn’t meant to be. Try something else. Pray to the Lord about it. What is your passion? Pursue it!

I once heard on a Christian program I was watching some time ago that God gives you a dream so that you can fulfill it for your story. I know what my story will be.

What will your story be?

One of tragedy?

One of fear?

One of hope?

One of success?

Or one of regret?

The choice is yours.

Lord bless you!

  • Thank you for this powerful post. I’ve always been more of a “dreamer” than a “doer”. It’s so easy to think that we have our whole lives in front of us, yet we truly never know when GOd may call us home.

Hey Jessica! I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed this post. It’s one of my favorites.

It is so important to not let fear get in our way and live our lives to the fullest. We take life for granted. I want people to know that it’s time to just do it. Just step out. God will see us through!

    Have a great week!
