“Jesus answered them and said, Verily, Verily, I say unto you, ye seek me not because you saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.” — John 6:26 KJV
“(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:32-33 KJV
Why do you serve Jesus? Do you serve Him because you truly love Him? Or do you serve Him because of what you think you can get from Him?
A lot of Pastors today teach serving God for things is good. Their self-centered and deceitful teachings tell people to come to Jesus Christ, not because they have sinned against Him and are lost, and yes, destined for Hell because of their sin against God, but that Jesus made a way out for them by dying for them. But, they tell them to come to Him to get the blessings out of His hand.
Come to God because He has a “wonderful plan for your life.” Come to God and find happiness, joy, peace, money, houses, cars, a new job, and the list goes on and on. They teach people to seek Jesus for the “loaves” or blessings He can give to them like the people did in John 6:26 KJV.
When people come to Christ for material gain, or anything other than coming to them because they know they have sinned against God and realized their lost spiritual condition, and then don’t receive the things the false preachers told them they would have if they did, they fall away because they never wanted Jesus to begin with. Not really. They only wanted what they could get from Him. They were false converts. God gets treated like a toy that they loved and played with for a while, until a new toy came out promising more “fun” and enjoyment, so they throw the old toy away because they now deem the old toy to be worthless. That is very sad and very wrong.
Jesus never promised us material possessions. He promised us Eternal life and a place in Heaven if we will give our lives to Him. He told us He would save us from Hell, if we would only turn from our sins and follow Him. He promised us Himself.
Jesus never promised us an easy and comfortable life on this earth. Jesus says in John 16:33 KJV “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Job 14:1 KJV tells us that “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” Acts 14: 22 says “Conforming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” So why should life for you be any different?
Trouble does and will come in this life. They won’t go away because you become a Christian. Tribulation will come. And persecution will come. The world will never accept a true believer in Christ. Jesus told us that if the world hates us, know that it hated Him before it hated us. (John 15:18 KJV) The world will hate us because we follow Jesus Christ.
The early saints were persecuted and killed. The Disciples were all martyred. There are Christians all over the world that are persecuted and murdered everyday because of their faith. There are Christians suffering from sickness in their bodies, have lost family tragically, are disabled or have loved one who are, and Christians whose lives are filled all kinds of trouble. Jesus Himself told us that we would have tribulation in this life. Why should you be the exception and live easy? God is not a respecter of persons. (Acts 10:34 KJV)
Yes, God does bless His children. Of course He does! But, if you come to Him with the intention to use Him to obtain blessings from Him you will be very disappointed. God is not a toy, He is Almighty God. Alpha and Omega. He deserves your respect and love.
Matthew 6:32-33 KJV says “(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
The blessings come when you seek first the kingdom and the righteousness of God. Not when you come to Him with the intention to use Him. Jesus knows your true intention just like He knew the intentions of the people in John 6:26. God can not be played.
Don’t seek God in an attempt to use Him to get what you want or to have your own way. But seek Him because He is God. Seek Him because He sent His only Begotten Son to die for you to save you. Seek Him because you want to know Him and to serve Him better.
Don’t come to Christ in an attempt to get all of the blessings He holds in His hand. But come to Him because He died to save you and you know you’re lost without Him. When your heart and motives are right then the blessings will come.
God is NOT your puppet. God is not here to serve you. You were created to love and serve Him. If you think you can pull His strings by making a “decision” for Christ, saying a few prayers, going to church from time to time, and reading your Bible every now and again and therefore have your own way, you’ve got another thing coming. If that was your purpose in making a “decision” to follow Jesus then you need to truly give your life to Him now, and serve Him for the right reasons.
Seek and serve The Bread of Life because you know you have sinned against Him and can’t live without Him, truly live without Him. And not to get the “loaves” in His hand.
