Get Married For Christ’s Sake by Kenny Jackson Book Review

This is a great book. “Get Married for Christ’s Sake: The Christian Singles’ Call To A World Changing Marriage” by Kenny Jackson is a book written for Christian singles who want to marry. It’s the perfect book to read before you consider making the leap into married life. It guides you on how to have a successful marriage before you are married so you have the tools necessary to ensure your marital success. From being sure you have chosen the right spouse before you reach the altar, to praying for your future spouse now, even if you aren’t seeing anyone. There is discussion on what it means to be truly committed and the importance of your wedding vows, preparing for children, dealing with your future in-laws, careers, money and so much more.

I especially like when Kenny speaks about “The Goo.” Goo is all of those lovey dovey feelings we have when we first meet someone and fall in love. But the “Goo” doesn’t last forever, and shouldn’t be used as a barometer of whether there is still love or not in the relationship, or choosing to marry the wrong person because of the “goo.” Love is more than “goo.” All relationships involve work to make it work. Marriage is no different. There is no such thing as the “perfect” marriage. But you can have a great marriage.

Kenny has so many valid points in this book. One important one is that we all work so hard and put so much time into preparing for “The Big Day,” but hardly anyone does the necessary work in preparing for the marriage. If more people would prepare for the marriage the way they prepare for the wedding day there would be a lot less divorce.

A lot of young people no longer believe in marriage. They’d rather shack up and play house. But marriage will always have a place in the world. And if you intend to honor God in your relationships it’s important to know and understand that real commitment is deeper than simply saying “I’m committed to you baby. Haven’t we been together for 10 years with five kids!” It’s about doing things God’s way, honoring Him and the one you’re with and following the plan He has for you. True commitment in a marriage lasts a lifetime. It’s not to be thrown away when times are hard, unless you or your children are being abused. Or your spouse is a serial cheater, thereby jeopardizing your life or health. You can have a successful marriage if you follow God’s plan for marriage and keep Him first.

I believe that Kenny helps you to start laying the groundwork for a successful marriage now so that you can have the marriage God wants you to have and enjoy. There is even a list of questions to be answered separately from each other during a premarital counseling session. You may very well glean an awful lot from your future mate than you thought you might!

If you are single, but want to get married in the future, definitely read this book. And if you are engaged even, read this book. You will surely learn a lot and benefit a great deal. So pick up a copy of this book today! I give this book 4 stars!
