Every Body Matters by Gary Thomas Book Review

Every Body Matters by Gary Thomas is a book that deals with how our physical health affects our spiritual health. Our bodies are God’s temple, but most don’t treat them as such. We fill ourselves up with junk food, fried foods, sugary drinks, sometimes to the point of becoming overweight or creating health problems. This book is about snapping up to attention and reminding us that these bodies we have don’t belong to us, they belong to God. They are temples for His Holy Spirit and we have an obligation to God to take care of them.

This book wasn’t written to condemn those struggling with their weight. It is meant to get us to realize the importance of taking care of ourselves properly and that by doing so we can better serve God and others. Every Body Matters also gets to the nitty gritty of why you may be overeating and gaining weight in the first place.

Every Body Matters: Strengthening Your Body to Strengthen Your Soul is not a weight loss book. It is a call to action. Sins of the body consist of more than just premarital sex, infidelity or other sexual sins. This book reminds us that it is also a sin to abuse God’s house, your body, His temple by not taking proper care of it. God uses His people to serve others and do good in this world. How can we serve God with broken bodies?

I believe that if you, or someone you love, is struggling with their weight or unhealthy eating habits, you need to pick up this book. It will challenge you to live and do better and how to honor God with you body by keeping it healthy.

This book is easy to read and even contains a section called “Questions for Discussion and Reflection” to help you become better and stronger physically and spiritually.

I think that this is a good book that everyone should read. Not just those struggling with weight or health issues. This applies to us all. I give this book three stars. Pick up your copy of Every Body Matters: Strengthening Your Body to Strengthen Your Soul today.
