Evening Devotional with Charles Spurgeon

“Whereby they have made thee glad.” – Psa_45:8

And who are thus privileged to make the Saviour glad? His church-his people. But is it possible? He makes us glad, but how can we make him glad? By our love. Ah! we think it so cold, so faint; and so, indeed, we must sorrowfully confess it to be, but it is very sweet to Christ. Hear his own eulogy of that love in the golden Canticle: “How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine!” See, loving heart, how he delights in you.

When you lean your head on his bosom, you not only receive, but you give him joy; when you gaze with love upon his all-glorious face, you not only obtain comfort, but impart delight. Our praise, too, gives him joy-not the Continue reading

Morning Devotional with Charles Spurgeon

“To him be glory both now and forever.” – 2Pe_3:18

Heaven will be full of the ceaseless praises of Jesus. Eternity! thine unnumbered years shall speed their everlasting course, but forever and for ever, “to him be glory.” Is he not a “Priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek”? “To him be glory.” Is he not king for ever?-King of kings and Lord of lords, the everlasting Father? “To him be glory for ever.”

Never shall his praises cease. That which was bought with blood deserves to last while immortality endures. The glory of the cross must never Continue reading

Evening Devotional with Charles H. Spurgeon

“All they that heard it wondered at those things.” – Luk_2:18

We must not cease to wonder at the great marvels of our God. It would be very difficult to draw a line between holy wonder and real worship; for when the soul is overwhelmed with the majesty of God’s glory, though it may not express itself in song, or even utter its voice with bowed head in humble prayer, yet it silently adores.

Our incarnate God is to be worshipped as “the Wonderful.” That God should consider his fallen creature, man, and instead of sweeping him away with the besom of destruction, should himself undertake to be man’s Redeemer, and to pay his ransom price, is, indeed marvellous! But to each believer redemption is most marvellous as he Continue reading

Morning Devotional with Charles Spurgeon

I’ve always been a great fan of the work of Charles H. Spurgeon. He was truly an anointed man of God. I believe that everyone should read his work. You won’t regret it. You will learn so much.

I have decided to occasionally include some of his Morning and Evening devotionals on this blog. I know that you will enjoy them and that they will edify you. These are perfect for reading during study time with the Lord. I hope that you will come to appreciate these posts. I will also be including devotions from other men and woman of God including the continuation of my own devotionals. Please enjoy.

Lord bless you

“Your heavenly Father.” – Mat_6:26

God’s people are doubly his children, they are his offspring by creation, and they are his sons by adoption in Christ. Hence they are privileged to Continue reading

Fair? What Is?

“That’s not fair.” We tend to say that when the sky is starting to fall. “Why, why, why” is another.  Why isn’t life fair? Because we live in a fallen and broken world full of fallen and broken people. People don’t always act as they should. Circumstances sometimes take s turn for the worse and life seems to be completely flipped upside down. It’s enough to drive you crazy.

You look around you and it looks like Continue reading

There Is None Righteous

I have written this commentary/Bible Study based on Romans 3:10-18. It is meant to educate both the saved as well as the unsaved. But mostly it is to show those that don’t know Him why they need Him. I hope that you will be blessed by it. This commentary is written as part of the FaithfulBloggers Romans Road Writing Project.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is
none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their
tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose
mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood:
Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not
known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

— Romans 3:10-18 KJV

These are very serious charges. The verdict: guilty. Who is the guilty party? All of
mankind. Who indicts us? God Himself

Man is corrupt. You can deny if you want. It doesn’t matter. The evidence is all around us. Don’t believe me? Turn on the news. Look at your neighbors. Look at your family. Take an honest look at yourself! We are a sin stained people.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

The Word of God tells us that only Jesus Christ, who is also God, is good. There has never been nor will there ever be a perfect person other than Jesus Christ. It’s not possible. As humans we have a sin nature, and that nature will prevent us from ever being the good people we tell ourselves that we are. As good as you want to believe yourself to be God says that it just isn’t so. By nature we are wicked. No amount of good works can save you or make you good. Our ability to do good just makes us a sinful people that sometimes does good things.

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Sin keeps us blind to the truth of our nature and who God truly Continue reading

If He Did It Once

Sometimes when things are bad and we get desperate or just wrapped up in our troubles we forget. Forget what you ask? We forget about God and what He’s already done for us before.

We get freaked out. It feels like God isn’t hearing us. Maybe He won’t Continue reading

In the Presence of My Enemies

This post was written as part of the FaithfulBloggers.com writing project on Psalms 23. Everyone who decided to participate had to choose a verse. I chose verse 5. I hope that this post will be a blessing to you.

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

I love this verse. I understand it well. I have had the misfortune of dealing with an enemy or an attack of the enemy, a time or two in my lifetime. Perhaps you have as well. So did Jesus and the Disciples. As followers of Christ we should Continue reading

What Will Your Story Be?

What have you done with your life? If you were to die tomorrow, would you have died with your dreams still in you? Or would you have died having given them birth?

All of my life I have wanted to write. And for the last several years I have been crippled by my fear of rejection. A couple years ago I made up mind to work on my book. The book that has been in my heart for years. I’ve given myself 5 years to write it. I’ve got three years left. It’s a slow process. But you know what? It’s worth the hard work and effort, as slow going as it is. I’ve always wanted to write a book, and I will do that. That’s my dream. I want to be a published writer. I want to be successful. I want to make a living as an author, which I believe to be my calling in this life. I’m working on it, and I know that I will achieve this goal.

People die everyday full of hopes and dreams for a better life, a better Continue reading

Pushing Forward Through Prayer

little_angel

I’ve been thinking  a lot about prayer lately. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Yet it seems that  a lot of the time we only come to God during times of pain, suffering and sorrow. Why is that?

Self-sufficiency is the problem

I believe that self-sufficiency is the main problem. We take our eyes off of God when things are good. We start to Continue reading
