The Road Trip by Jo Lynn Crozier Book Review

The Road Trip is a cute adventure story about a woman named Liz who gets the chance of a lifetime: the opportunity to travel with God on a road trip (in a sidecar no less) that would completely change her life. During her travels with God Liz learns that she didn’t know all that she thought she did about what it really means to be a Christian, God Himself, or the world in which she lives. But through their journey together God opens Liz’ eyes and brings her to a deeper understanding of her faith and how to live it out properly.

During the course of the journey Liz encounters some fantastical Continue reading

Don Cornelius: You Will Be Missed

Today we have lost and icon and pioneer. Don Cornelius died today from a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. He was 75 years old. I can’t believe that Don Cornelius is dead. The fact that he left us so tragically makes the loss even worse. I hate knowing that his suffering, whether mental, physical or both, was so great that he felt the need to take his own life; that he didn’t see another way out. It is all so sad.

Don has contributed so much to entertainment, and not only black culture, but pop culture. He opened the door for black artists by giving them a place where they could belong and share their gifts with the world, and he created where young African-Americans could come dance and have a great time. He made being black Continue reading

Every Body Matters by Gary Thomas Book Review

Every Body Matters by Gary Thomas is a book that deals with how our physical health affects our spiritual health. Our bodies are God’s temple, but most don’t treat them as such. We fill ourselves up with junk food, fried foods, sugary drinks, sometimes to the point of becoming overweight or creating health problems. This book is about snapping up to attention and reminding us that these bodies we have don’t belong to us, they belong to God. They are temples for His Holy Spirit and we have an obligation to God to take care of them.

“Christians who don’t take their health seriously don’t take their mission seriously” – Gary Thomas

It’s The Thought That Counts

Have you ever really wanted to help someone financially but you honestly couldn’t? I know in these economic times being able to give when you may be in need yourself is tough. You turn on the TV and see poor hungry children starving to death and you want to help, but you can’t. Or you learn about natural disasters taking place in all over the world. People are dying or becoming homeless and you would love to help out, but there is no way. You may be having a hard time paying all of your bills, keeping food on the table, providing for yourself or your family. And there is just no way you can afford to open your pocket book for another. It’s rough.

I was going through Continue reading

Thoughts of Peace and Not of Evil

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 KJV

Why is it that when things go wrong one of the first things that people do is blame God? God is not responsible for the ugly things in our lives. God’s thoughts for us are of peace and love, never evil. We are quick to forget that when bad things come our way or we don’t get our way. It is because He loves that we don’t always get our way. God’s plans for us are far greater than our plans for ourselves.

It is because Continue reading

A New Year, A New Beginning

With a new year comes new challenges. But it also brings with it new opportunities. Some people look at the new year with dread. They whine and complain. “Another year has been lost and wasted. Here’s to another year and my dreams have not come true. I’m still struggling. Things are still hard. Life is still rough. When am I going to get my time to shine? When do I catch a break?”

I know that feeling. It’s that feeling of not knowing your purpose; of feeling that your sorrow is unending. “Why am I here Lord? Is this all there is?” I’m here to tell you that things do get better. But it takes time. Joy does come in the morning. It’s hard to believe that when you wake up and you’re facing Continue reading

Martin Luther King, Jr. – The Dream Is Still Unfolding and Being Realized

I wanted to take the time today to give honor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His sacrifices in his life, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death, has made it possible for African-Americans to live as human beings, and not as a second class citizen. Or worse, as an animal. Because African-Americans, such as myself, have always been seen as even lower than an animal simply because of the color of our skin. I also wanted to remind people that the dream continues. We have achieved great things and overcome much, but we still have a long way to go.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”

We’ve come far, but we still have a long way to go. We’ve come far from Jim Crow, and the Continue reading

Joy Comes In The Morning

Nothing lasts forever. Not even our troubles. The tide always turns. When we are deep in sorrow we forget that. Because in those moments we are unable to see clearly. We only know what we feel. And that’s that the pain is unbearable. We are unable to look ahead and see a brighter day.

Whether you can Continue reading
