Welcome home Euna Lee and Laura Ling!

I am so happy about the safe return of Current TV reporter’s Laura Ling and Euna Lee to the United States from North Korea where they were held prisoner. I can’t even begin to imagine the terror, and deep sadness they must have felt over the fact that they may never come home and see their families again.

Five months is a long time to have your world turned upside down and your future up in the air. “Will we come home?,” they must have asked themselves many times. “Or will we be prisoner’s in a hard labor camp for 12 years for a crime we didn’t commit?”

The fact that they Continue reading

Happy Father’s Day!

I just want to take a moment to wish all of the Dad’s out there a beautiful and blessed Father’s Day! I wish that my dad could be here with me, but I like to believe that he’s up there in Heaven celebrating the day with our glorious Heavenly Father! 🙂

Enjoy your special day. And children young and old, appreciate your dad’s today and everyday. Be sure to thank God for your dad’s. And if you’ve lost your Father as I have or your Father was never there, just turn to God who is your Father in Heaven. He loves you more than any earthly father ever could. He’s waiting for you to turn to Him now. Just let His love wash over you!

Lord bless you!

The Blessing of NOW!

Look at everything as though you were seeing it for either the first or last time…then your time on earth will be filled with glory. –Betsy Smith, American Writer (1896-1972)

Life is so short. A lot of the time we just breeze through life without taking it all in. We become consumed by the concerns of this world. But, it’s important to stop for a moment and take it all in.

If you look at all that is around you as if for the first or last time it opens up a sense of wonder and appreciation in your heart for what you’ve been given. You Continue reading

Fighting For Life

Brazilian Model Mariana Bridi de Costa

Brazilian Model Mariana Bridi de Costa

I came across a story last Friday afternoon (January 23, 2009) about a young 20 year old Brazilian model that really touched my heart. Her name was Mariana Bridi de Costa.

Everything had been going well in her world. She was achieving her dreams and accomplishing goals that would allow her and her family to have a better life someday. She had placed sixth in a major contest just last year in China, and had been signed by model scout Dilson Stein who was also responsible for discovering Supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

Then in less than a month her entire world was flipped upside down. Continue reading

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I would just like to say in this post that I am forever grateful to this man of God that stood up for the rights of his people, and for everyone. Because of him I can write here without fear or shame of people finding out about the fact that I’m black. Or even just being able to write here at all because I am black. Because of this man I can eat where I want. I can work where I want. I can marry a man of another race, because it is no longer illegal to do such a thing. I can go where I want without fear Continue reading

Out With the Old. In With the New

December 31, 2008. The last day of the year 2008. Can you believe it? It feels like time really flew this year. I look back on the last year and I’m amazed at all I’ve learned and all that I’ve overcome. I did not achieve all that I had hoped to. I did not work on my book as much as I had intended, and therefore was unable to complete it for example. However, I did finally get my blog up and running, and you know what? I’m very proud of that! That is a major achievement. It took Continue reading

Christmas Is All In The Heart

We’re living in tough times right now and people are concerned about not being able to provide a big “traditional” Christmas for their families this year. I heard it said that a woman told a friend about having a “dollar store” Christmas because she couldn’t afford toys from the major toy chains and department stores. Perhaps you can relate. I can. I also was Continue reading
