Don Cornelius: You Will Be Missed

Today we have lost and icon and pioneer. Don Cornelius died today from a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. He was 75 years old. I can’t believe that Don Cornelius is dead. The fact that he left us so tragically makes the loss even worse. I hate knowing that his suffering, whether mental, physical or both, was so great that he felt the need to take his own life; that he didn’t see another way out. It is all so sad.

Don has contributed so much to entertainment, and not only black culture, but pop culture. He opened the door for black artists by giving them a place where they could belong and share their gifts with the world, and he created where young African-Americans could come dance and have a great time. Martin Luther King, Jr. – The Dream Is Still Unfolding and Being Realized

I wanted to take the time today to give honor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His sacrifices in his life, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death, has made it possible for African-Americans to live as human beings, and not as a second class citizen. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”

My grandmother introduced me to Michael’s music before I was old enough to even speak. I remember many weekends when it was just the two of us together listening to Michael’s Thriller album. It was a happy time.

Eventually I grew up and played his music constantly. I was just in love with all things Michael. My Michael Jackson collection proves that. I don’t have everything. Very few people do. But, I managed to accumulate quite a bit in spite of my family not having much money. I’ve been very blessed.

I have supported Michael always. Through the thick and the thin. I didn’t become a fan of his in his death. I’ve been a fan since Thriller. When people were lying about him Continue reading
